Lily sighed as she sat on the ground, looking up at the sky. There was nothing to do, but swhe didn't expect a friend to fall right out of the sky. The Grand Elder had told her, right before she ran away, 'Things happen for a reason and to always think before doing something you might regret.' "Very wise for a 93 year old." She murmured to herself.

A young, sinewy man burst from a line of trees near the girl, hysteria vivid in his eyes. When he saw the young girl, he shoved his unkempt brown hair from his face and approached her earnestly. "You should get away from here, or she'll kill you, too!"
Before he could finish his thought, though, a voice came from behind him. "Who will?"
Suddenly frozen with terror, it was all the male could do to turn his head around to face where the voice had come from. A figure of ethereal beauty stood behind him. A long, slender arm reached toward him, spots of pale white skin showing through the coating of blood that covered the woman’s entire body. He jerked back, refusing to look in her deep emerald eyes. But he knew, without a doubt it was over. "You... You heartless bitch..." he muttered, as that pale hand found his throat and wrapped around it.
A smile spread across the woman's face; she actually looked pleased. "You don't know how right you are." Then she tore her arm backward, taking with it a chunk of the man's trachea, which now hung limply from her grasp. The eyes rolled back in his head, and he collapsed in a heap.
The woman now turned to face the girl, having just now noted her presence. Her smouldering green eyes studied the other, but after a moment, she turned away. Having completed her mission, she began to walk away without a word.

"I don't think that's nice but on the contrary, the bugs and animals will have food to eat." Her voice was sweet and showed no hint of fear. Lily got up and reappeared in front of the woman. "And it's really rude to ignore someone. Where are your manners?" Her silver-gray eyes locked onto the other woman's. Her pointed ears twitched and when down to show little aggression.

At once, Ashelia stopped. She turned her head toward the girl, but instead of a reply, she raised her bloodstained hand to her mouth and licked some of the deep red liquid from it. "I have no time for you, little girl." Without waiting for a reply, she again began to walk away, caring nothing for the company of others.

"Little only describes my height. Could you tell me what a "bitch" is? I'm not familiar with these terms." She once again walked after her, shifting her bow and her quiver full of arrows.

The slightest hint of a smile flickered across the woman's face. She decided to humor the girl, explaining, "It is a female dog."
By now, she had re-entered the forest, traveling along an overgrown and unmarked path that she knew well. She quickly approached a small river that flowed through the forest, and, completely disregarding the tag-along, began to strip. She tossed her clothes and boots into a heap under a tree and unwound the gauze around her torso, adding it to the pile carelessly. Once completely naked, she plunged into the icy water to scour her body of the caked blood.

EThe nakedness of the other girl did not effect her as she pondered. "I don't get it. You are a female but you are no dog, am I right? Then why did that man call you one? Is that why you killed him? Was that a word of insult? If so, is being called a "bitch" so bad?" Lily took a breath from all the questions. She really was curious.

Ashelia sighed, the constant burning in her veins adding only to her irritation. "That is by no means why I killed him."
She rose from the water, droplets of water gliding from her pale skin. The countless runes scrawled across her body seemed to glimmer in the sunlight as she returned to the shore.
She stretched out next to her clothes to drip dry, once more turning her attention to the girl, "Is there a reason you have insisted on following me, girl?"

"You interest me. My name is Lily." She smiled brightly. "What's yours?"

You interest me. The words were like a switch that turned on Ashelia's defenses. The gate slammed and locked around her mind, allowing nothing, no one, past. But the girl's question seemed to smash into her defenses, and released a floodgate. Such a simple question... Her name... And yet, from the blackness of her memory, words burst forth, unbidden. Her knees felt weak as the voices rose and fell, the volume undulating and the words mixing together into a roaring crescendo. But one word alone remained in her mind in the silence that followed.
"My name... Na-" But as she tried to voice the word, it vanished like a wisp of smoke, leaving yet another hole in her hollowed mind. "Ashelia." And the wall was back.

"Ashelia, huh? That's a very pretty name. Could I call you Ash?" She smiled.

"Call me what you will," the woman answered in a cold tone. The sun glinted off her pale skin, highlighting the black runes across her back and shining on the thick gray scars that ripped across her shoulder blades.
As an afterthought, she continued speaking. "You should leave. They will be back. They'll keep coming until they get what I took from them..." As if this was outrageously funny, she broke into dry laughter. "As if they could ever manage to overpower me."

"Well... I'm following you... I don't really know my way around the human world that much..." Lily skipped to the girl's side and smiled brightly. "These people... what did they do to you to make you this way?" Lily's tone dropped from the bright and cheerful tone to the sad and curious one.

"They've done nothing. Battle scars... Are something you obtain when you live as I do." She rose to her feet, pulling on her pants and boots, and tightly wrapped a fresh layer of gauze around her torso. "I'll give it another day, at most, until he sends someone else... Emile will never give up, and he has all the time in the world." She touched a large black sword that lay on the ground next to her, running the pads of her fingers along the flat of the blade. "But he won't get it from me... And when he faces me himself, it will be the end." She watched the blade almost fondly; the one thing that could destroy him was finally in her possession, and after searching for it so long, she would never lose it to him. She would not let that happen.

Lily thought for a moment. "How do you live, if you don't mind me asking…?" She looked up at the woman.
