History: His family is confusing. Originally, he thought Micheal Wayland was his father. In reality, Stephen Herondale is his father. He thinks of Robert and Maryse Lightwood as his parents, though. Along with Alec and Isabelle as his brother and sister. Before he was born, throughout the pregnancy, Valentine was giving his real mother Angel Blood in a drink, saying it would help the baby. In reality, it was changing Jace from a normal Shadowhunter into a half Angel, half Shadowhunter. When he was born, his mother died, along with his real father. He was given the name Jace Wayland, as Valentine was then posing as Micheal Wayland, a man who had died by Valentine's hand. Jace grew up thinking Micheal Wayland was his father, not knowing his real identity as Valentine Morganstein, a man who was trying to destory ever Downworlder.
Jace grew up under a strong, firm hand. Valentine taught Jace not to love anything and that to love was to destroy. When Jace was 10, Valentine faked his own death. Jace was then sent away from Idris to live with the Lightwoods in New York. He was depressed, but took out his anger on Demons and killing. He became hard, showing no love.
Another 7 years later was when he met her. He was tracking a blue haired demon into an All Ages Bar. Clary followed him, Isabelle, Alec and the demon into a dark room. She saw as they killed him. They then disappeared. After a few days, he was sent to go see her, to bring her back to Hodge, his personal trainer. He met her at Java Jones, where they talked for a moment before she got a call. Her mother was in trouble. Jace followed after her for awhile, finding her unconscious after killing a Ravener Demon. He was stunned that a Mundane girl could have killed a demon.
It was obvious that he had fallen for her, but he did not admit it to himself. He eventually kissed her. It all went downhill from there. He found his father, but he did not know still that he was Valentine. Clary told him eventually, leaving Jace with a shattered piece of glass that reflected home. He found that Clary was his sister, but couldn't fight the feelings he had for her. He found that his real name was Jonathan, not Jace. He was a demon boy, half Shadowhunter, half demon. he thought that his feelings for Clary was because of his demon blood, hurting everyone around him.
Eventually, though, he learned that he was not a demon, but an angel. It was a relief, but not for long. Max Lightwood, Isabelle's and Alec's younger brother, was killed by Sebastian Verlac, also known as Jonathan Morganstein. He personally stabbed him through the heart. He thought he was dead, that he had avenged his brother. Not long after Clary had died from a Ravener demon and found himself wandering around The Final Daybreak, frustrated and aggravated and unhappy.
