Vincent sat under a tree, his black locks slightly moving with the small breeze. The sun came out and had made him retreat to the shade. He wasn't a vampire but he was a monster. He knew that no one would understand him. He closed his eyes in hope of dreaming of her… without nightmares that had plagued his mind for years. Vincent wanted something nice in his life besides his current friends. Something more.

The sun glared down on Ryeo's pale skin as he lay out on a flat rock, bathing it in. It was a mystery how the harsh rays never tanned or burned his shoulders and chest, as he never wore a shirt, but he reveled in the warmth. He folded his hands behind his head and let out a contented sigh, feeling the closest he'd been to warm since he'd been curled up against his surrogate parents so long ago. How he missed the heat of another body against him.
The boy absent-mindedly scratched at the collar around his neck, tilting his head to allow easier access. This was the only reminder of a past he would rather forget, and try as he might, he could never seem to remove or destroy it. Instead, he chose to ignore it, and crossed his feet, focusing his attention on the clouds above him. The soft, willowy, free clouds, that floated along without any care to the wills of the creatures of earth. That must be the perfect life.
Eventually, he hoisted his weight forward and sat up to glance around. It must be close to midday, and he realized he had yet to eat today. He scanned his surroundings with dismay; he was in the middle of nowhere. No towns in sight, which meant no places to eat. He knew that behind him lay endless rolling hills, which had taken him nearly a day to cross, and ahead there was the beginnings of a small forest, which he had yet to explore. It was then that he noticed a figure sitting under one of the trees a good way off. He shaded his eyes with a hand to get a better look.

Vincent had fallen asleep, making little to no noise at all as he did and hadn't moved a muscle. He was dreaming of her. She was smiling at him, holding his hand and they were under a sleepy willow tree, tinted pink and red and orange from the sunset. But then darkness shrouded them both as she let go of his hand. Laughter could be heard. It was loud and deep, making the ground shake. "You're a monster. You don't belong here!" The voice boomed. Vincent fell in the darkness backwards, trying to reach to her. She had said his name and tried to reach for him in return be he had heard nothing. Their hands barely touched as he drifted down. Vincent woke up with a small grunt. He looked around. It was midday, still bright. He sighed, "This is why I don't sleep…" he murmured to himself.
