A distorted figure with blonde hair and piercing blue eyes glared up at Mamoru from the surface of the rippling water. He dipped his hands in, dispersing the reflection, and brought them cupped to his lips to drink the water. He splashed the rest on his face and shook his head to chase the moisture from his hair. The sun was out; the sky was a bright blue, and everything was peaceful. But Mamoru was still on edge.
It had been ten years. Was that long enough? Was he free from the grasp of his sins? He doubted it. Even in a day like this, he couldn't remain calm. He could find that person at any moment, and then he would be trapped forever. Even after he had gone through all this misery just to live his life separated from humanity, he could meet that person at any time. He had no way of knowing when that would happen, or even what kind of person it would be... But once he was shackled, he would remain that person's slave eternally.
The soft grass cushioned his back as he gazed up at the sky. When would it be the last time he could look at it with freedom? He hated this foreboding cloud that blurred his future, even now, he was prisoner to it. Even the sweet scents the gentle breeze brought gave him no comfort, how could he enjoy anything when he knew what awaited him?

My violet orbs were wide and violent. Both my hands pointed to each side of where I was standing. Strings of fire erupted from my long fingertips and the tress around me went up in flames the smoke billowing into the sky. I stalked between the trees a permanent glare set upon my face. How I hated those little children, running around like they had all the spare time in the world. No purpose at all. I flicked my long red hair out of my face and it billowed out behind me.
I didn’t have a place to go, a chosen destination. With a sigh I stopped walking and picked up the large, golden compass that was slung around my neck. Flipping it open I stared down at the tiny dials. The longest pointer was pointing north- east. I swung around in my step and began to tramp through the forest staring determinedly down at the object. Finally, I snapped it closed and headed North.
I was only fifteen. Young to be wandering about alone; but I was no weakling. I was strong as somebody who had known all the tortures in the world. My black and red cape billowed out behind me in the cool, refreshing breeze. I was in a field, a very large one at that. There were flowers all around me. I looked at them, revolted. How I hated the colour pink. With a casual flick of my gloved hand they erupted in flames. I watched them for a few seconds before turning my back and beginning to walk down the field. Even though I had nowhere to go, I walked with a purpose. My strides were quick but I didn’t stumble, I didn’t look down. I stopped suddenly when I noticed a figure lying in the grass looking up at the sky.
I approached the man, it turned out to be. He didn’t seem to have noticed me. His mind seemed preoccupied. I stood near enough to stretch out a boot and nudge his face; yep, alive and breathing. I stepped closer so that I was standing over him looking down with a cold glare. “Tut tut” I said with a sadistic smile. “What have we here” I rolled my eyes. “You should learn to watch your surroundings boy” I sneered. My purple eyes gazed intently at him as he finally became aware of my presence. “Something might just... grab you” A flaming cobra appeared in midair above us and swooped down over the man lying in the grass.
“Ignorance” I scoffed. I turned on my heel and began to walk away; I would camp up the top of the hill. And already, the ground was becoming steeper, just a few meters away from the blonde haired man. I tossed my red hair out of my face and began to climb.

Mamoru's eyes automatically shifted to look at the girl when he heard her voice. And he instantly wished they hadn't. The moment he saw her his breath stopped and his body went rigid. The whole world seemed to turn gray in his eyes as the life seeped out. He said nothing, instead stared at her with horrified eyes. His gaze was broken only as the flames shone into his eyes. He didn't flinch, but merely turned his head away.
He still couldn't find his voice. His body moved without his consent; as the girl walked away he stood and followed after her quietly. It had happened just like that, without any warning his freedom had suddenly vanished. And this person of all people, she seemed so... hostile.

The sun was beginning to drop below the horizon. I looked up at the sunset but something else caught my eye. My hand shifted towards the dagger in the pocket strapped to my shirt. But I rolled my eyes and glared as I realised it was just the blonde haired man. It had astonished me to see how fearfully he had gazed up at me. People usually feared me, but to that degree... I was sure something else was wrong.
I took out the golden compass and flicked it open. I watched the dial with purple eyes until it stopped to somewhere by my side. I looked down and saw my bag. I stared at it and then opened it, fished inside and pulled out a bottle of... coke? I shrugged and popped the can, then turned back to staring at the pointer. It was now pointing to my left. I looked up, and then over and spotted the blonde dude. The glass bottle slid from my hand and smashed to the ground. I ignored it, instead I stared exasperated at the compass, then at the boy before snapping the lid, giving it a shake and throwing it a few metres away. Then, staring in disgust at the ground I decided I would have to go ask this boy what his problem was. He was acting like some sort of... bodyguard.
I got up of the ground and began to walk slowly towards him. I eyed him suspiciously before folding my hands over my chest and glaring at him. He was quite a bit taller than me so I had to look up but I still glared with a cold fury. More to the fact of what my bizarre compass had shown me than to the boy. “What” I said in a low, dangerous voice, “do you want” I stepped back watching him my eyes narrowed so that the pupils were merely slits. “Well?” I said, after about a seconds pause.

"Absolutely nothing," was Mamoru's reply. His face hardened to stone and he clenched his jaw, "I'm leaving." Then he spun around and started walking purposefully away. But he suddenly turned back around and started walking toward her again. His face showed disbelief as he stared at his own hand that no longer seemed to belong to him. "Damn it!" he yelled. He clenched the hand before his face into a fist, pulled it backward, and launched it into a tree. The tree splintered and cracked, giving way under his fierce frustration. "Why did this have to happen? Why you?" His anger and self-hatred were escalating, and his eyes began to flicker between blue and red. His body forced itself to calm down, and he accepted it. There was nothing he could do about it now.
Mamoru's shattered hand fell limply at his side, and he slumped against the scarred stump of the tree he had vented on. "I guess... I guess I'm not leaving." he said meekly.
(ahhhh, I'm sorry that's so choppy, I just came up with him so his muse is still in embryo form)

“Absolutely nothing!” I repeated. I watched his handsome face harden and he turned on the spot muttering. I’m leaving I nodded but no sooner had I made to turn around than he was walking towards me again. I stared perplexed as he yelled Damn it Was he ill? I wandered. I watched, at a complete loss as his fist shattered a tree next to him. Why did this have to happen? Why you? Then he slid to the ground, muttered something incoherent and didn’t move again.
I gazed mystified at where he had fallen. He had seriously scared me with his words. Why did this have to happen? Why you? The words echoed in my mind and I righted myself and tried to decide what to do. Normally I would have left the poor guy to die, but I wanted to find out what he had meant. I picked up a bit of moss looking revolted, gathered some stick and made my way over to him.
Dumping the sticks onto the ground I started a small fire. Then I dragged him down of the tree being careful to knock his head around. Hopefully he would get concussion and not wake up for a few days. I placed the piece of moss under his head and stalked away. God, what was I doing, I didn’t even know this stranger. I put my back to a tree and pressed my body against it. Closing my eyes I let fire dance up in a circle around me. Then I sighed, slid to the ground and let my head fall onto my shoulders. The flames died away the moment I fell asleep.

Mamoru remained still as she moved him. He felt hardly any pain from anything, and his hand was already usable again. Already, his eyes were following her as she walked away. The moment she fell asleep, he silently crept nearer to her. Then he stayed awake, watching her in case anything came. Without thinking, he had already begun to value her safety. What was wrong with him?

My eyes flicked open. It had been a couple of hours since I had fallen asleep. I looked around and with an exasperated groan, saw the boy sitting obediently near me watching my every move. I moved away from him. I opened my mouth to tell him he was acting like an over possessive guard dog when something huge and bat like came into my line of vision. I had just enough time to dive out of reach, but it still swiped an ugly claw across my face. I gritted my teeth as blood spurted from a wound just below my eye.
Thinking fast I reached for my sword but, to my horror I found it gone. “Shit” I said as it came at me again. I put my hand to my back grabbed one of daggers and flung it at the creature before scrambling out of the way. My head smashed against a tree and my arm became stuck between two branches, wedging it in. The dagger bounced of its scaly coat and the animal, whatever it was, stopped for a moment looking dazed before it screeched in anger and pulled its body upwards. I watched horrified as it somersaulted in mid air and came speeding like a bullet towards me. “What the!” I didn’t have time to react, I didn’t have time to flame it out of the way. I was trapped between two trees, unable to pull my arm from them. All, I knew for certain was that those blood red eyes were probably the last thing I would ever see. I saw something else flashing like a blurr, but I supposed this was death. I gasped as the pain in my face built up. Blood blocking my vision I let my body fall limp against two trees my mattered hair covering most of my face.
(just so ya know, the thing was some sort of magic creature, and its claws are venomous so shes been poisened)

Mamoru leapt up as soon as he saw the creature. Why hadn't he noticed it before? He quickly sprung to action, and drew his scythe. He wasn't sure if his ability would work on something non-human, but he had to try. His mind seemed to clear itself, and all he could think about was saving the girl, whom he had just met...
He lunged toward the creature and managed to slash his blade through its foot as it retreated. He swung the huge weapon back toward him and licked the blood from the gleaming surface. The creature's blood tasted disgusting, but he could feel power flowing through him as his eyes took on the same color of the blood he had ingested. His hair grew long and silvery, the mark of his demon form. He made a split second decision, there was no time to engage in combat with this creature, he had to treat the girl as soon as possible. So without a second thought, he drove the curved tip of his scythe into his own stomach, clutching his teeth against the pain.
To his relief, the creature howled, and fell to the ground, blood oozing from the wound that had appeared on its own abdomen. It had worked. This was his first time reflecting his own injuries on an opponent like this one, but it seemed just as effective as on a human. He quickly ran to the girl, disregarding his own wound. By the look of it, he could tell it was poisoned. Damn!
"I hope I made it in time..." he murmured. With skillful hands he removed his shirt and tore it into strips. One strip was soaked with his bottle of icy water, and this he used to wipe the wound, hopefully removing the majority of the poison. Then he used the other strips to bind it tightly to stop the bleeding. He smiled warmly at her, "Well, you'll probably look like a pirate for a while," he said, indicating the makeshift compress that covered her eye, "But you should be fine, for the most part."
Mamoru grunted and clutched his own wound, which was now exposed. He had nothing left to cover it with, so he would have to wait until they made it to a town. Of course, he had no way of knowing the next time the girl would go through a town, but it didn't matter. He would survive anyway. And this scar would add to the countless others that ripped across his bare chest from wounds that had gone untreated.

Roxa
I didn’t feel tender hands; I didn’t hear the beast roar. It was completely silent where I was, in a place between life and death, while judgement awaited. Judgement of whether I would live or die...
My violet eyes flickered open and I stirred weakly, my head pounded when I tried to move it. I lifted my hand, which felt numb and dead and touched my eye; a strap of material had been slung over it. I realised with shock I couldn’t see through that eye, I could only see darkness. The eye that had not been ruined swivelled in its socket. I put my hands underneath me and lifted myself into a sitting position. For a few moments the world swum before me. I swayed slightly before the sudden realisation of what had happen hit me. I looked around wildly and my eyes landed on a bloody, torn, and hunched over figure.
I recoiled in shock but then, realising who it was I scrambled towards him. I had no idea what I was meant to do. “Let me see” I put my hands over his and removed it from the wound in his body. I swallowed fighting the urge not to throw up. I looked down, the clothes I was wearing were fabric that was very hard to tear. I jumped up and stumbled over towards my bag. The effect of only having one eye to look out of had still not yet settled with me.
I reached inside and pulled out my spare clothes. Grabbing a cloth I tore it up. I jumped up and walked back over towards the man. Shivering I wrapped the cloth around his belly and tied it at the back. Then I sat down beside him and flames sprung up around us. They licked at my skin but didn’t hurt me. I wanted to lie down and sleep, but I knew I couldn’t, I shivered, but not with cold, with shock. I had never dreamt of encountering such a monster before, it was unknown to me, and I had seen so many things. “Thankyou” I mumbled staring at the ground. It was somewhat hard for me to say. I had never been saved before. I turned to glare at him "Sleep" I ordered firmly.

Mamoru looked up at her through dazed eyes, "I can't sleep. Something like that might happen again." He said this like it was the most obvious, unquestionable thing in the world. "Anyway, you need to sleep more than I do... Especially with a wound like that." His voice was hesitant and labored, and his breaths came in rasps, but his eyes were determined. He no longer had the freedom to put himself first.

Anger flared in me and small flames began to burst from my finger tips. “I don’t know who you are or what you want” I said, and my voice was low and dangerous. I got up, crossed my arms and glared down at him. “I don’t need sleep and I DON’T need your help” I looked frightening, even mad. I turned and walked away picking up my sword. Then I got my compass and made my way into the forest.
It was dark and stuffy but I didn’t care; anything to get away from that boy with such watchful eyes. I sat down and put my back to the tree. Then I buried my face in my hands. The golden glint of the compass caught my eye. I gingerly picked it up and opened it. I wanted most in the world to get rid of the stalker. It pointed back the way I had come. I got up and stalked back to camp keeping my eyes on it. Gathering my possessions I looked at it again. It pointed left, ok; I walked left, right, back, forward, right, right, forward. But still I came to nothing as I trampled round the dark forest. I glared down at it and shook it hopelessly. “Come on damn it work”

Mamoru crept after her as quickly as he could with his wound. After all, what else could he do? He was already entwined, there was no way his curse would let him just watch as she left. No, it would never be that easy. His face paled as blood soaked through his makeshift bandages. Had he pierced any organs in his attack?
With a thud he collapsed to the ground, still several yards away from the girl. "Shit..." He stretched out his hand and clutched desperately at roots in front of him, attempting to drag himself closer. How could he let himself be hurt so badly? His body was so strong and yet... Was he this weak?
Without his consent, darkness finally took over. He fought it as it enveloped him and seeped into his vision, but the bloodloss had taken its toll. Soon he lay unconscious, still reaching toward the girl he was meant to protect.

(I was thinking, that maybe he should stay unconsious for a few days, and when he wakes up he is healed? And then he goes to find her, or won't the curse let him do that?)
Roxa
I looked up suddenly my eyes wide to; once again, spot the boy stumbling towards me. Once again anger flared up inside me. He definitely had a problem. But I wasn’t planning on staying round to find out what it was. For what seemed like the thousandth time that day I dragged his limp, unconscious form down to the ground, started a fire and then began to back away. My heart was pounding furiously my face hurt terribly. Then I turned and ran, ran as fast as I could (which was to say, very fast) I didn’t stop running till I could go no further. I collapsed down in a pretty clearing and I knew I was miles away from where I had left the boy sleeping.
I began to pace, my brow furrowed. I would make haste to leave as quickly as possible. Maybe even know. I knew his injury would heal eventually, and I didn’t want to be round to see it because somehow, I knew that some connection had been made between us. I picked up the compass from around my neck and studied it carefully. It was, to my annoyance pointing back the way I had come. I knew I was feeling guilty for dumping him there like that. But I didn’t like him, not even as a friend. He was like some annoying pest that buzzed around my ears, like a magnet. I pushed a strand of red hair out of my eyes and closed my eyes. A town, a town, a town, a town I chanted inside my head. I opened my eyes and looked round, there, on the ground, near me was a purplish light only visible to me. I turned in that direction and began to follow it.

(Yeah I don't think the curse would let him sleep while she went farther away, even if his body was falling to pieces... Plus his body is abnormally durable, so he probly wouldnt sleep for very long)
Mamoru awoke to a strange buzzing in his ears, and the painful sensation of his body slowly being pulled apart. Of course, it was the curse. The curse wouldn't let him have such distance from her...
The pain pulsing through his abdomen was beginning to lessen, so he dragged himself to his feet and started in the direction the pulling was coming from. At first, his pace was relatively slow, his body was still weak and tired. But soon he was running furiously, panting and clutching his stomach. Before long he could tell he was heading toward a town. So that was where she had gone...
A sudden gust of wind nearly knocked him over, but Mamoru simply gritted his teeth and kept going. His mind wouldn't let him think of anything other than which direction to run in, and his body was going into overdrive. Finally the pull began to lessen, and he instantly realized why.
In the distance, he was her walking. He increased his speed even more, calling desperately, "Wait!" He slowed down after he had gotten close enough, and came to a stop a few yards away, panting heavily. "Don't you get it? Even if you leave, I'll follow you. It's not like I have a choice! So leaving like that just makes it harder!" He leaned his full wait against a tree, "Geez, you're such a pain... Making me run like that."
